You can start with no website and no developer, and move to the API later without changing accounts or re-applying. Every route below uses the same hosted checkout, the same dashboard and the same payouts.
Payment links
Create a link in your dashboard and share it by email, WhatsApp, a message or a post. The customer pays on the secure checkout page and the payment appears in your dashboard with their name, email address and mobile number.
Nothing to install and no code. A link for a recurring product starts a subscription instead of a one-off payment, and the checkout page shows the renewal terms before the customer pays.
Hosted checkout sessions
Your server creates a checkout session with what the customer is buying, then sends them to the session's address. They pay on the hosted page and come back to a return address you choose.
A session is valid for 24 hours. A signed webhook tells your server the outcome, so you can release the order even if the customer never comes back to your site.
The REST API
JSON over HTTPS at utopia-payments.com/api/v1, with a secret key you create in Dashboard → Developers. The resources are products, customers, checkout sessions, payments, subscriptions, webhook endpoints, events, and your own account.
- Amounts are integer minor units: 34900 is AED 349.00.
- Lists are paged with a cursor, so a long history reads in order without gaps.
- A POST with an idempotency key replays its first answer for 24 hours, so a retry after a timeout cannot charge twice.
- Keys are limited to 240 requests a minute.
Test keys can create products and customers today, but a hosted test checkout needs sandbox credentials that are not enabled yet, and there are no test card numbers. Until they are, try the flow with a live key and a small real payment — never with somebody's card details as a stand-in.
Node and PHP libraries
Both libraries cover the same API, carry typed resources, and verify webhook signatures for you in one call.
npm install @utopia-payments/nodecomposer require utopia-payments/utopia-phpWooCommerce
A WordPress plugin adds Utopia as a payment method at WooCommerce checkout: the shopper pays on the hosted page, and the order is marked paid from the webhook rather than from the customer's browser.
Download the zip from the documentation and install it under Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin. It is not listed on WordPress.org yet, so it updates by replacing the zip.
There is no native Shopify app yet. Shopify stores use a Utopia payment link alongside a manual payment method until there is one.
